Autumn in Hostavalley 2004.
(The photos on this pages have been taken October 19, 2004)
Also in Hostavalley, the autumn has started and has reached the Hostas. Most of them are already dying and the leaves are getting all sorts of colours. Most Hosta leaves are turning yellow. But there are still a lot Hostas that don't yet want to go into wintersleep and they still have nice strong, intact green leaves.

A few of the Hostas in Hostavalley that are still standing with their leaves in great shape are Hosta rupifraga, H. 'Harry van der Laar', H. Harvest Delight, H. 'Tortifrons', H. 'Darkstar', H. 'June Fever', H. 'One Man's Treasure' and some more. Also one of my own Hosta introductions Hosta 'Sub Four' is still in good shape.
These Hostas will stay in good shape until the first frost has arrived. In Hostavalley (zone 8a), it's even possible to be after mid-November (when they are growing in a sheltered spot).

still in good shape (19 October 2004).
Many Hostas currently have flowers and are standing in full green leaves. It's mostly Hosta rupifraga/longipes hybrids that are still performing great late in the season. So I have Hosta 'Harvest Delight' and Hosta 'Tortifrons' still flowering in Hostavalley. And they wil do until after the first frost of the season.

The above shows clearly that all the different qualities of the different Hostas turn out to be pretty important. It's therefore important to consider what kind of Hosta you'd need before buying (which 75% of all people do in spring). If you'd like to have flowering Hostas in Autumn, make sure you choose from the following Hosta hybrids:
Hosta 'Sagae' is one of the first dying...
